Can ShrinkPicture compress a photo under 1 MB?
Yes. Choose a 1 MB target (or use this page’s link) and Smart mode searches for the smallest practical result that still fits your size limit when possible.
What if the photo still cannot fit under 1 MB?
Very large or detailed images may need a lower quality setting, a smaller maximum width, or Maximum mode. ShrinkPicture will explain when a target cannot be met without further tradeoffs.
Is 1 MB measured the same way upload forms measure it?
ShrinkPicture uses decimal units (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes), which matches how many government and job portals state upload limits.
Do my photos leave my device?
No. Compression runs in your browser. We never receive the photo bytes, filenames, or EXIF from this tool.
Which format should I use for forms?
JPEG is usually the safest for visa, passport, DMV, and job upload portals. You can also set output format to JPEG after opening the compressor.
